SunCPAC Q&As: July 28, 2011

By My Sunday News

Q: When and where are the assessment changes for my township published?

A: If your assessment has been changed, you will receive a notice by mail. Townships publish notices in a local newspaper as a requirement of state law [August through November], but this serves little purpose if you don’t subscribe to the newspaper used by your township. Once the assessments are published, Sun City residents can find the details of their new assessment by accessing the SunCPAC Model Report. The assessors’ data is compiled by township, model, and address. The Model Reports show current assessment values as soon as they are released by township assessors. The release date starts the 30-day window of opportunity for appeals. Access the Model Report at www.suncpac.org.

Q: If I’m not good at computers or don’t have one, wouldn’t the newspaper publication be better for me?

A: Since 2004, SunCPAC has provided, for those without computer knowledge, printed copies of each report for each township, model, and address. These copies are available in the Sun City Reading Room in Prairie Lodge. These reports are in binders by township and can be copied if necessary. Look for them on a shelf straight back and to the right as you walk into the Reading Room. Let SunCPAC know if you value the work that they do by placing a note in the binder pocket.

Keep an eye open for more Q & A’s about property assessments and information in future editions of the Sun Day. And look at www.suncpac.org for your Model Report.
