Get to know Living Out Loud before they become famous

By Sam Geati

It’s time to put the spotlight on a local group – a very young local group. This week, it’s all about Living Out Loud (LOL), the grandchildren of Kay and Lou Beugnet of N.33. The kids are triplet boys, Andrew, Steven, and Jason, age 12, and sister Kaela, 14.

LOL has been in existence since 2010, when the boys teamed up with their older sister. While working out in their basement in Roselle, their jam sessions soon turned into something more. They may be new to the rock band circuit, but the members have been involved in their school band since fourth grade. This is one of the reasons a school music program needs to be a part of the education process, in my opinion. Their exposure to music at school, both singing and playing, was the springboard for LOL. Much credit goes to their family and teachers for encouraging them and fostering their talent.

The group has performed at local venues such as festivals, charity events, and private parties. Their gig count has exceeded 25 in just two years!

Kaela is the lead vocalist and bass guitar and also plays clarinet and piano. Andrew plays the keyboard and sax and does backup vocals. Steven strums the acoustic and electric guitars and also plays the trumpet. Jason is the percussionist of the group.

Check out some of their performances of on YouTube. Just type the links below into your browser to view the performances.

It’s hard to believe that the boys are only middle school kids. I hadn’t even learned how to hold a pair of drum sticks at that age! This is a great beginning for these energetic, talented young people. You can also visit their websites at:

Technically, they have made great progress in a short time and will continue to refine their act as they grow older and get more experienced. Maybe someday we will be able to say, “We knew them when they were just starting, and look at them now!”

That’s “All That Jazz and More” for now. My next column will focus on a music legend, Mr. Duke Ellington. Please send your comments to me at greengeezer9@comcast.net. I’d love to hear from you with your comments and suggestions for future columns.
