June 5, 1933 – Gold Standard is abolished. Many believe this is the reason for ongoing inflation.

June 6, 1931 – “There Ought To Be A Moonlight Saving Time” by Guy Lombardo hits #1. He had to wait two more years before prohibition was ended.

June 7, 1881 – Belmont Park, a major thoroughbred horse-racing facility located in Elmont, New York, first opened on May 4, 1905. Will it be the site of California Chromo getting the Triple Crown Saturday?

June, 8 1921 – Babe Ruth arrested for speeding, fined $100, & held in jail until 4 PM. Role model anyone?

June 9, 1924 – “Jelly-Roll Blues,” is recorded by blues great, Jelly Roll Morton. His birth name was Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe (possibly spelled Lemott, LaMotte or LaMenthe).

June 10, 1801 – Tripoli declares war on US for refusing tribute. President Jefferson responded with the Barbary War, where our marines did themselves proud.

June 11, 1859 – Comstock Silver Lode discovered near Virginia City, Nevada. It was the first major discovery of silver ore in the United States.
