Sun City lights up

The Lions of Sun City – Huntley will hold their eleventh annual tradition of lighting up Del Webb neighborhoods with luminaries on Christmas Eve. The Lions will supply the materials for the luminaries and ask each home owner to contribute a minimum of $7 per home or $12 for homes located on corner lots to cover the additional supplies. The materials would consist of enough bags, candles (3” tall x 1.5’ dia) and sand to have one every 9-10 feet across the outside of the front sidewalk. The materials will be delivered starting about two weeks prior to Christmas. The luminaries would be set out and lit about 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The candles will burn for several hours.

The funds raised will be used locally for the purchase of eye glasses for needy children, Grafton Food Pantry, McHenry County Charities (Shop with a Cop), Camp Lions for Blind and Hearing Impaired children, Veterans Home in Hebron, and Home of the Sparrow.

Anyone interested can contact Chairperson Lion Jim Graves at phone 847-515-3036 or email liongraves@comcast.net or Lion Dick Schmidt at 847-515-2431 or email rschm72927@sbcglobal.net or any Lions member.

Checks should be mailed to The Lions of Sun City, P.O. Box 901, Huntley.

All aboard!

The Train Club would like to thank all the residents that supported us throughout the outdoor season. Whether you attended our open houses, our summer Sunday operations, or dropped by our evening operation on Oct. 1, we sincerely thank you for your support.

The Club will open its traditional Holiday display one week earlier then normal on Saturday, Nov. 22. Trains will run in the Prairie Lodge Social Lounge, 12880 Del Webb Blvd, Huntley, from Saturday Nov. 22 (the Saturday before Thanksgiving) through Sunday Dec. 28. In general, weekday running times will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and weekend running times will be from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. On some days we may have extended hours dependent on other activities in the Lodge.

Once again we will sponsor a raffle for three Lionel trains. This year’s model will be a Lionel O Gauge Canadian Pacific Passenger Train. The raffle will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. and winners need not be present. So bring your kids, grandkids and cameras and spend some time enjoying this Holiday tradition and our trains.

The Railroad Club is proud to sponsor this Holiday event, and we invite all Sun City residents, their family and friends, as well as residents of neighboring communities, to this annual tradition. The event is free but we do ask that all children be accompanied by an adult.
