SUN CITY – Ushering in the sounds of the season, the Sun City Prairie Singers are set to perform their annual holiday concert this December, complete with standard classics and new twists.

Secretary of the Prairie Singers and participating soprano, Diane Lindblom, feels that the holiday concert, themed “Happy Holiday Wishes to All,” is a way for residents to officially herald the holiday season.

“I think it starts Christmas out for everybody because it’s just such a neat show. A lot of people look forward to it, and it sets them off for the holidays,” she said.

The singers form an undeniably large ensemble. Boasting more than 70 musicians, the ensemble also includes smaller performance groups, such as the Prairie Voices, who are highlighted during intermission.

While this wealth of singers promises a performance of the classics, it hints at new holiday numbers as well.

“We do the same effort each year, but we change things around. Last year we had bell ringers, and this year we have ballerinas,” said Jim Lunn, advertising coordinator and bass singer in the group.

Lunn added that this year’s show also includes a singer dressed as Santa Claus, song mash-ups such as “Deck the Nutcracker Hall,” and a group of grandchildren performing onstage as well.

Although the Prairie Singers will include an audience sing-a-long segment, complete with classic songs such as “White Christmas,” “Let It Snow,” and “Silent Night” to name a few, the show also highlights multicultural music.

“We’re also doing ‘Sing Noel,’ an African song. It’s fun to sing because it has a lot of rhythm to it,” said Lunn.

Both Lindblom and Lunn attest to the crowd-pleasing finale.

“We end with a good-old halleluiah chorus, which is quite rousing,” Lunn said.

“Happy Holiday Wishes to All” will perform 3 p.m. Sunday, December 7 in Drendel Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $3 for children.
