Hang Your Hat: July 2, 2015

By My Sunday News

I have read and re-read the report of the incident involving an 86 year-old man and his golf cart.

Imagine you are Stanley Pape, catapulted over a wall, lying under your golf cart, with your head pinned between its wheel and a tree. Now see your own doctor (73 years young) jump down into that ravine and rush to your side. What a relief, your doctor who knows you inside and out,and someone you know will not leave you until you are safe. Also imagine the relief when he breaks off the tree to release your head.

So then you are lifted to an ambulance, and transported to hospital where the ER will call Dr. Zamir!

I think the Huntley police and paramedics need to update their procedures. Had they listened, they would have gathered valuable information about the patient. To handcuff Dr. Zamir was ridiculous and insulting.

An open letter to the Huntley Police Chief John Perkins and Fire Chief Kenneth Caudle:

I read, with dismay, the story about the golf cart accident involving a patient of mywonderful Dr. Zamir. He not only is a fantastic doctor, he is one of the best, kindest, caring people that it’s been my honor to know. He truly epitomizes everything a doctorshould be. He even comes to your house if he feels the patient needs him.

To think he was not allowed to take care of his patient who was injured and to be put in handcuffs is outrageous!

And the way the whole situation was handled is unbelievable. The dispatcher took avery, very long time arriving at the scene because they didn’t think it was an emergency. Mr. Pape could have died while waiting for help. His son actually drove over to thefirehouse, knocked on the door, and asked why there wasn’t any help for his dad. He wasfortunate not to have suffered deadly injuries.

My neighbor had a similar experience with your EMTs. He fell and could not get up; his90 year-oldwife was unable to help him so they called for help. The EMTs came, liftedhim, and said “the next time you call, we’re taking you to the hospital.”That also was noway for them to act.

Mr. Pape has earned the right for an apology from your people.

Thanking you in advance,

Dorothy Litwin
