Board drops to six members for remainder of 2015

Varying circumstances leave five open seats in next election

By Dwight Esau

SUN CITY – The 2015 Sun City board of directors election may be one of the most interesting and exciting ever.

The normally seven-member governing body of the Sun City community association is going to function with only six members for the rest of 2015, due to a combination of unusual circumstances. Next year’s board could have five new members and two holdovers.

There will be five seats open in this year’s balloting, which will be held in October. Here is a sound bite list of these five seats:

The two-year terms of Board President Bonnie Bayser, Vice President Linda Davis, and Secretary Bill Ziletti expire at the end of 2015. They may run again if they desire.

Ken Andersen was appointed earlier this year to fill out the two-year term of James Van Fleet, who died in January. This seat will be filled for a one-year term in 2016.

Eugene Rhodes vacated his seat when he resigned this past spring for personal reasons. His vacated seat will not be filled for the rest of 2015, and the election in October will fill his seat for a one-year term in 2016.

Holdover board members not participating in the 2015 election are Dennis O’Leary and Bill Bendick.

Residents interested in serving on the board may pick up candidate packets now through July 29. Completed packets must be submitted by 5 p.m. On July 29 in the drop box at the Prairie Lodge member-services box. Packets contain information on the guidelines to be followed by candidates in the campaign. Residents will vote by written ballot by mail for a two-week period in October. Successful candidates will take office at the first board meeting in January, 2016.

The three top vote-getters in the balloting will be elected for full-two-year terms. The fourth and fifth highest vote-getters will be elected to one-year terms.
