Why don’t cannibals eat clowns? Because they taste funny

By Dorothy Litwin

Hey kids – do you think that’s funny? Do you know any funnier jokes or puns. Great! Nancy and Jim Eggers, the Dining Duo on 101.5, want you to send them in. They’re starting, the first ever BIG JOKE CONTEST for kids 6 to 10. Email your favorites to thediningduo@huntleyradio.org and our distinguished panel of judges will pick the best one. They’ll call the winner and set up the day and time when they will record an interview with you where you’ll read your joke or pun. This recording will play on 101.5 FM for two weeks on the Dining Duo show. Their show is on every Monday at 11:30am, Thursday at 12:30pm, and also on Friday at 4:30pm. Remember your joke or pun has to be food related. So tell your kids grandchildren about this. Joke Contest will be a feature of the Dining Duo’s shows as long as you kids keep sending them in. If you have any questions, call 847-669-5218.

4th of July was great, wasn’t it? 101.5, your own radio station, was a big part of it. No we didn’t handle the fireworks, but for the first time not only was the 4th Celebration held in Deicke Park, we were there also. We had a broadcasting stage safely near the fireworks display. We began broadcasting from that stage at 7:00pm with great “party” music, interviews, and games for both the kids and the grown-up kids. At 9:45pm, when the fireworks began, the music changed to great patriotic songs, timed together with the display. When the fireworks ended, at 10:15pm, 101.5 continued until 11pm with more great music. KUDOS to Eric Thomas, for putting the whole evening together, his family, and a large corps of radio station volunteers – they’re the ones who made it all possible under Eric’s direction.

Did you know that almost from the start of Huntley Community Radio we have collaborated with School District 158 and McHenry Community College(MCC). We have had up to 6 MCC students interning with the station. They have been trained in all aspects of the station’s operation, from recording programs, editing, and preparing podcasts and updating our weekly schedules. And several have written, produced, and broadcasted their own programs. Look on our schedule for “Loud and Proud,” “The Dorm Room,” “Greg’s Classic Jam,” which are aired at different times. Currently we have MCC interns John Benedeck and Curtis Koch. We welcome our newest MCC intern Heather Bilecki who has just developed her own show “POP’D,” which is a program (her words) dedicated to Pop culture and its influence on our interests and lifestyles today. Her show can be heard Wednesdays at 5:00pm and Sundays at 1:00pm. The interns, working with their teachers, are earning college credits. All of these shows can be heard on 101.5FM, of course.
