Intermittent fasting

By Norma Thompson

Intermittent fasting is a term given to postponing breakfast and going without eating for a longer period of time between supper the night before and the first meal of the next day. Here is how it works:

Choose a time to eat your main meal of a protein (meat, fish or poultry), a nice salad, and several vegetables. You may have a fruit if desired. Generally this time would be 5, 6 or 7 p.m. This program works better if carbohydrates are restricted.

Eat no other food before bedtime but you may drink water or have a cup of herbal tea with stevia. No diet or regular soda during the evening.

Postpone your breakfast until 10, 11 or 12. If you have had dinner at 5 p.m. the night before and choose to eat at 11, that would be a fast of 18 hours.

People with blood sugar problems will want to move more slowly and eat breakfast earlier, say at 8 a.m. Do this for several days until your blood sugar stabilizes, then go an hour longer to 9 a.m., working up gradually.

You will basically be eating just 2 meals per day, late morning and dinner. You will be eating within a time frame of 6 to 8 hours.

To further help cleanse the body and liver there is a detox drink from Dr. Axe that can be made as follows:

1 or 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar (purchased from health food store)

1 or 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

2 to 4 ounces of coconut water; then fill remainder of 8 ounce glass with water

If desired, sprinkle one shake of cayenne pepper, ginger or turmeric or any combination of fresh herbs. Add stevia to taste.

Here is a potent beverage which is used the first thing in the morning before breakfast. Move slowly at first. If the combination of ingredients in the drink is too strong for your body, cut back the amounts or simply fast on water during morning hours. Either way is extremely effective.

This way of fasting is easier than going all day without food

Next time we will look at all of the benefits.
