Get involved; it’s fun and easy!

By William Geheren

As we head into spring, you might be thinking – it’s April, how am I doing with my New Year’s Resolutions? You remember the ones from a few months ago when you were going to give something up or help people. 2016 was definitely going to be the year of change. Now it is 25% over, but not too late. It’s never too late.

This year, I decided to focus on helping others. I have always felt something pull me toward helping other people and I have always believed that I live a pretty charmed life. This year I set out to really make a difference.

So how can I help? Financially, nope – not right now (I am currently unemployed), not to mention, where do you start? How many people are inundated with requests for different charities, fundraisers, etc. All valiant causes, but it can be so overwhelming.

Next option – volunteering. Only issue there is time. I have four boys and I am looking for a new job. Poor excuses not to achieve my resolutions, but reasons nonetheless.

The question that keeps flashing in front of me is “how do I maximize helping people, while also taking care of my family?”

My answer is, you guessed it…Huntley Community Radio. Everyday, not only do we have a chance to speak to an audience that could be thousands of people, but we can discuss topics that make a real difference in people’s lives such as: organ donors, health issues, pet care, managing finances, relationships, etc. Also, the station is involved in events that support cancer, Alzheimer’s and dementia, developmental disabilities as well as many others.

We also share news and entertain people seven days a week. And all that doesn’t include what we do for the employees of Huntley Community Radio. One of the most satisfying achievements is watching people who initially came to us with little or no broadcasting experience being transformed into very competent community radio broadcasters.

The station is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that gives people an outlet to help people on a large scale, day-to-day basis.

How can you get involved? The easy answer is to donate time or money. We are always in need of both. We need volunteers for everything that can be done at a radio station and we need money to make sure we are always available for our community. hunleyradio.com.
