Sun City Guests

Identifying Sun City as a Private Club sounds a bit “snooty,” but the reality is that it is in fact a very exclusive club providing a very special lifestyle for qualified residents.

Membership requires the purchase of a house, payment of monthly assessments [dues], and a promise to yourself and the remaining community to abide by the rules and regulations set out for the enjoyment of all of its members. There are policies allowing guests of residents to enjoy certain facilities, sometimes for a minimal fee and sometimes at no cost. A swim requires a guest fee. Fishing at Wildflower is free.

When the community was still being developed, it became clear that the existing outdoor pool and the Prairie Lodge fitness facility would not accommodate the demand for use and time. The developer and association agreed to share in the costs to construct Meadow View Lodge and a second outdoor pool.

Meadow View pool was designated as a resident-only pool, Paying guests were allowed in the Prairie Lodge pool. Currently, the Meadow View pool policy has been altered, on a trial basis, to allow one paying guest per household, at least 16 years old, on Sundays only. What possible problem that accommodation solves is subject to question.

Sun City Huntley is now accommodating nonresidents.

In a similar way, accommodations of nonresidents have been allowed in other areas of the exclusive Lifestyle concept.

In February, a plan was approved allowing sister community residents to participate in Sun City Huntley day trips when seats were available. Sister communities were defined as communities managed by FSR [First Service Residential]. FSR manages Sun City Huntley. It is unknown whether that plan ever needed to be implemented.

Sun City Huntley would have been accommodating nonresidents.

Currently, the Sun City Softball league includes a team from the Del Webb Edgewater community in Elgin.

Sun City Huntley is now accommodating nonresidents to play softball.

Many have asked if other nonresidents might be invited to join the swim team, Sew & Sews, Pencil & Palette, German Club, or any other Sun City activity.

As Kevin O’Leary, panelist on ABC TV’s popular TV show Shark Tank says, “Stop the madness.”

Sun City Huntley is an exclusive private club. Buy a house, pay the assessments, and you are in. Income derived from nonresident fees is of a much lesser value than the privilege of being a Sun City resident.

We are very much against the policy of guests being allowed at Meadow View Pool. If the residents voted to have this pool as a “residents only” pool, how does this policy get arbitrarily changed, even for a trial period? MVP is small enough without adding guests.
