Many around Sun City are declaring that they don’t like either of the potential presidential candidates and therefore will not be voting in November. That is an error.Ā While the Big City on Lake Michigan has the well-known declaration “Vote Early, Vote Often,” Sun City does not need the slogan, “Don’t Like Em, Not Voting!”Ā

It is just as bad.Ā Our body politic needs all eligible voters to cast a vote, to take part in the election so that those in office know how well they are liked. If you can’tĀ bring yourself to vote forĀ either of the big party nominees, cast a vote for one of the small party candidates as an expression of how the big names are off base. But, express your opinions before the election. Let people know what is important to you and what the big candidates have all wrong, on Election Day. Get out and vote!

Voting for President

Mr. Faubl is correct when referring to people who have said they wonā€™t vote for either the Democrat or Republican candidate in November, but would prefer not to vote at all for the next president of our country. We agree that a blank box on the ballot would be a huge mistake for every voter who wants to make a protest statement. But that decision would not be any worse than voting for a name that could not realistically become our president. A ā€œnone of the aboveā€ idea would fail to accomplish the goal of protesting against either candidate or our current political situation, but only demonstrate a disregard for the opportunity of American citizens to elect our next president.

Our vote should be based upon who would better meet our beliefs and lead on the issues that will direct Americaā€™s future. It is our responsibility to become informed about the positions of each candidate on those key issues and the leadership needed to bring the needed change.

I suggest that we should not rush to judgment but pay more attention during the coming weeks and recognize the real factors that deserve our consideration and our decisions. It is then our duty to vote one of the two candidates to boldly address those issues and truly bring us out of the mess that is our current situation, leading America to a better tomorrow.
