Address numbers and door trouble

By The Woodchucks

Question: I moved into Sun City about six months ago and would like to replace or repaint my faded address numbers. Is there anywhere that you know of that they can be purchased? If not, any hints as to what type of paint can be used for touching up the numbers?

Answer: If you have a steady hand, you can repaint the numbers yourself. Use the black acrylic paint that comes in two ounce bottles at hobby stores and a small paint brush. If when you are done you find your hand was not as steady as you thought, you can purchase new numbers. They are available at the Drendel Corner Mobile station and at Ace Hardware.

Also, check the lights while you are repairing the numbers. The lights are low voltage and they just plug in, but if you have fat fingers you may have some problem in the tight space, but that is what neighbors are for. You can get the lights at any of the local hardware stores.

Question: I have two interior double doors that close and with circular screw-in ball and spring on the top of the doors. The ball and spring broke on one of the mechanisms. I have searched online and numerous stores and hardware stores for a replacement with little success. Do you know where I might find a replacement and/or an alternative solution so that the door will remain shut?

Answer: The ball and spring catch is available on Amazon at Ultra Hardware.

Notice: We usually announce about this time of year that we will be holding our furniture repair day for residents in October. This is where Woodchucks volunteer to repair wooden furniture items for Sun City residents. The club board has decided not to hold the Ask the Woodchucks day this October. The club board will reevaluate next year whether to hold the event again in the future.
