Last fall I noticed some flyers for a lost cat in my neighborhood (3). In December, I saw a lost cat in the wetlands behind my home. It was a mottled gray/black/brown, large in size. I couldn’t get to it and it disappeared. I called the desk to ask them to send out a notice in the Friday message that is sent out but was told they don’t do that. Years ago when Nora (may she rest in peace) was in charge of all things outside, not only did she send out messages about lost animals, but went on hunts for them. It was a very caring community for lost helpless animals.

I called the Northwest Herald and they put an ad in for free about the cat. No one responded to it. Winter was coming. December was brutal and I thought the cat must have frozen to death. Then I saw it again in January once, in February and now that it has gotten warmer, I see have seen it for a few days straight. I can’t put out a trap for it and I can’t feed it as I was told if I do the cat becomes mine. I have 2 cats and some birds and dogs and can’t bring a cat that has been living outdoors all winter and I don’t know if it may have a disease that my animals might catch.

The birds that come back every spring have arrived and a few build their nests in the wetland. Yesterday, I saw the cat stalking something. I know that when eggs are hatched the cat will get the babies. I love seeing the birds and feed them and over the years the number has dwindled to just a few due to West Nile. Two winters ago, I had 20 goldfinches feeding on my deck but during one brutally cold two-day spell, all but one froze to death. I don’t want any more birds to die.

I do hope there is someone out there who knows whose cat it is and comes and rescues it to save it from hawks or coyotes and to save the birds. The cat is amazing how it was able to survive after having been someone’s pet. Please, if you have a have a heart trap and can catch the cat so it can go to a shelter or to the home he escaped, please contact me. The wetlands are behind Cold Springs Dr. and Sycamore Court. The entrance is behind the first house on Sycamore in Neighborhood 3.
