The Dining Duo’s Best of 2017

By Jim & Nancy Eggers

ā€œFather Timeā€ for the year 2017 is getting old and wrinkled, just like most of us here in Del Webb, with the exception of Nancy. I better say that because my back can’t take sleeping on the couch anymore at my age. Another 23 restaurants, and several inches added on to our waistline, brings us to our annual ā€œBest Ofā€ article. So sit back, relax, get your reading glasses and antacids ready, ’cause here we go… All restaurants are handicap accessible.

10. GALATI’S HIDEAWAY (Cary)

We enjoyed their Chopped Salad (Antipasto Salad) for $9.95 which was big enough for both of us to share as an appetizer. Don’t pass up their Stuffed Peppers ($11.95), they were delicious and a steal for the price.

9. PORT EDWARD RESTAURANT (Algonquin)

We went there for the Sunday Brunch ($37) and considering what they offer, this was a fantastic deal. Nancy did an extensive review of their Champagne and orange juice. She thinks it may have been good…

8. CHEF PING (Rolling Meadows)

We got a blast from the past with their Shrimp Toast (6) for $5.95. The portions are huge and the meals were phenomenal. They have an extensive menu to choose from and week day lunch specials.

7. HENG WING RESTAURANT (Palatine)

Their lunch specials are the ā€œDeal of the Decadeā€ for $7.50. Nancy loved the plain Won Tons and we both enjoyed their tasty egg rolls. They offer a lot of ā€œOld Schoolā€ selections that we all remember.

6. BANGKOK THAI & SUSHI (Algonquin)

Had enough Asian food yet? Wait, there’s more. For something slightly different, the Pineapple Fried Rice (13.95) is to die for!!! Their Drunken Noodles with Shrimp ($11.95) was delicious, and the shrimp in both of the dishes were huge.

5. NIKO’S TAVERN & NEIGHBORHOOD GRILL (Pingree Grove)

Don’t call them anymore, and stop writing us, they ARE open for lunch!!! Everything that we had there was superb. Nancy especially loves all their appetizers and we both love their Italian Beef Wrap ($11).

4. DOMINICK’S ITALIAN RISTORANTE (West Dundee)

What makes this restaurant stick out in our minds is all of their sauces, or do you call them gravies? They are absolutely out of this world, and they don’t even give us heartburn at our age!!! They have the best lasagna that Nancy has ever tasted.

3. WILDFIRE RESTAURANT (Schaumburg)

Our 100th Review took us to this upscale restaurant. Even though Nancy is a seafood lover, she ordered the Filet Medallion Trio ($35.95). This came with your choice of toppings or sauces. She fell in love with the Parmesan crust. Jim’s Filet Mignon Wellington ($36.95) was out of this world. We totally enjoyed our celebration dinner.

2. RUTH’S CHRIS STEAK HOUSE (South Barrington)

What can we say? If you have an unlimited budget, or received an inheritance from your ā€œNigerian Uncleā€ through the email, then this is the place to go to. Everything from the dĆ©cor, to the numerous waitstaff, and incredible steaks, was top notch! Nancy was probably the first person in history to order crab cakes at this iconic steak house, and even those were phenomenal.

1. BOSTON FISH MARKET (Des Plaines)

If you recall, this is not like a regular sit down restaurant, but it makes up for it in quality seafood served at reasonable prices. The portions are astronomical, and you will not get a fresher seafood dinner anywhere. You can really taste the difference. Everything we had there on our numerous return trips has been awesome!!! BEST RESTAURANT OF 2017, hands down!

For more details on any of these restaurants, just go to www.mysundaynews.com and rummage through the Dining Duo archives, they are all there.

Watch for our reviews next year, but until then… From our table to yours, we wish you happy holidays with good times, good friends, and good food.

Happy New Year,
Jim & Nancy Eggers
