Geezer Moments: December 1, 2011
Instead of the usual Geezer Moments, this time I have something different, but really the same. You say, what are you talking about, Sammy? Ever heard of “Baby Brain” or “Pregnancy Brain?” Well, I hadn’t until my personal banker told me about her pregnancy experiences, suggesting a strong resemblance to Geezer Moments. Read these and see if you find similarities between the two afflictions.

Geezer Moments: November 3, 2011
“On Tuesday I was notified by the Huntley library that the book I had put on hold had arrived. I went to the shelf and retrieved my book. I then proceeded to the self check-out, which I always do. I scanned my card and followed the directions to scan the barcode on my book. I scanned the code and the screen read SORRY. I scanned it again and it repeated SORRY.”

Claudia Anderson of N-11 is back with another of her “moments.” Thanks for your contributions, Claudia.

Geezer Moments: September 22, 2011
Claudia Anderson of N-11 is the big winner this week, as she sent in not one, but TWO of her “moments.” Thanks for your contributions, Claudia.

Geezer Moments: August 25, 2011
My wife is always good for a “moment” or two. For this column, she was forthcoming with a daily double. Recently, she put the correct attachment onto the vacuum hose, starting pushing it around on the floor, and realized she forgot to turn the vacuum on.

Geezer Moments: July 28, 2011
Let’s start this week’s column off with one from the sweet mom of one of my fellow members of the Hunks. She told this one about herself and asked for anonymity. She recently purchased candle stands for her son’s fireplace as a gift. When she took them out of the box, something wasn’t right. They didn’t match.

Geezer Moments: June 30, 2011
I have had some very funny and often strange “moments” sent to me by readers since I started this column last year. This one, however, probably most typifies life as an active senior here in our Sun City community. It comes from Joan and Jim Rice, and originally was too lengthy to use in the space allotted for my column, so I’ve had to do some serious editing to make it fit. Here’s their story:

Geezer Moments: June 2, 2011
This month we start off with one from Elba of N33. She writes: “A recent Saturday I was to pick up my husband Arnold at the Anderson Car dealership in Crystal Lake where he went to take our daughter’s car for service. He went on ahead of me, but I went to the Honda dealership instead (also in Crystal Lake), parked, got out, talked to one of the sales people, whom we know, started walking towards the service department, AND THEN THE LIGHT WENT ON.

Eavesdropping on Geezer Moments
Overheard around Sun City:

Geezer Moments: April 7, 2011
This one comes from my percussion buddy, neighbor, and softball teammate, Jerry McClellan. Jerry writes:

Geezer Moments: March 10, 2011
Judy and I were lucky to be able to escape the Blizzard of ’11 by spending January and February in the place we call Disneyland for Geezers, The Villages, Florida. If you’ve never been there, you don’t know what you are missing. I don’t want to turn this into a commercial, but suffice it to say there are over 70,000 full- and part-time residents of this senior community. Here’s a few of the Geezer Moments that occurred there this year.

Geezer Moments: February 10, 2011
Starting off this week’s column is a great one from our good friend and neighbor, Emma Burns, who relates this embarrassing experience.
-
Geezer Moments: January 27, 2011
Does this happen to you, too? I often wake up in the middle of the night and then have difficulty getting back to sleep because my brain decides this is a good time to solve the world’s problems, or least some of my own. In fact, I am writing this at about 4:30 a.m. Once my thoughts started spinning wildly, I had no choice but to get up and write.

Geezer Moments: January 13, 2011
Kicking off 2011 with her “moment” is our neighbor Lorraine McGuire with what was her one and only “geezer moment” of 2010. Right, Lorraine?

Geezer Moments: December 16, 2010
My old drum corps and tennis buddy, Mike McGuigan of Neighborhood 18 writes: “I just had one of those “Geezer Moments” you write about.”
-
Geezer Moments: December 2, 2010
Softball buddy Jimmy Hayes starts this week’s column with this “moment”: My wife and I are watching the Late Show last week, and I find a piece of paper with several names on it. I don’t recognize any of them. I ask her who these people are. She says, “They are people that I voted for.” I said, “Oh, you mean obscure judges on the ballot?” She says, “Oh, no, they are people on “Dancing with the Stars.”

Geezer Moments: November 18, 2010
In this week’s column, I am departing from my usual format and instead am telling a true story, which, in a way, still is a “geezer moment” of sorts.
-
Geezer Moments: November 4, 2010
Many of our friends who are not Sun City residents continue to send their “moments” to me. Here’s one from former neighbors now living in Las Vegas, so this one gets the award for coming the farthest.

Geezer Moments: October 21, 2010
I’m starting today’s column with one from my travel senior softball days, when we would hold fundraisers to pay for our tournament entry fees.
-
Geezer Moments: Oct. 7, 2010
My buddy Bill and I are fraternity brothers of sorts, as we both marched in the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps as drummers. Bill likes to play golf and sent me this “moment” about himself:
-
Geezer Moments: September 23, 2010
Let’s start this week’s column off with this anonymous one about an 83-year-old woman who was stopped for speeding. When asked by the patrol officer, “Did you know you were speeding?” she talked herself out of a ticket by stating: “Yes, Officer … I was trying to get there before I forgot where I was going!” Makes perfect sense to me.

Geezer Moments: September 9, 2010
To open this week’s column, here’s one from our good friend and neighbor, Emma Burns. Emma writes:
-
Geezer Moments: August 26, 2010
I’ll start off this week’s column with one from our house. We own two vehicles, a minivan and a small, sporty vehicle. When parking them in our garage, the minivan goes only on one side because the other side has a movable storage platform that fits perfectly in the space above the small car.

Geezer Moments: August 12, 2010
Hey, fellow geezers, your emails and notes sent to me for this column get funnier each week. Here’s this week’s first gem, sent by good friends Linda and Steve.

Geezer Moments: July 15, 2010
Virtually all of us Sun City folk have at least one thing in common. I call them “Geezer Moments.” You know what I mean, those sometimes hilarious things we do throughout the course of a day.
