Geezer Moments: Oct. 7, 2010

By My Sunday News

My buddy Bill and I are fraternity brothers of sorts, as we both marched in the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps as drummers. Bill likes to play golf and sent me this “moment” about himself:

While playing golf, the three guys with me had to wait for me to tee off, as I won the previous hole. I walked up to the tee box all cocky from beating them on the last hole and don’t know what the heck I did with my “lucky” tee. Thought maybe I had dropped it, and all four of us are looking on the ground for it because I wouldn’t accept one from them and not be using my “lucky” tee. After about 5 valuable minutes with the next group waiting behind us, one of my friends says, “I found it!!!!” We all looked at him to see where he found it, and he points to my tee stuck behind my ear. I won’t hear the end of that one soon.

My softball buddy, Jimmy Hayes, who certainly has his share of “moments,” wrote this one.

While taking a shower, the phone rang. I got out to answer the phone. After the phone conversation, I toweled off, combed my hair, only to realize my hair was still wet with conditioner. I had to get back in the shower to rinse off the conditioner.

Our dear neighbors, Denise and Rich, sent in a few that they collected at a neighborhood gathering. I think it’s great that seniors are sharing these special “moments.” Here are their stories:

A friend was sitting on her patio waiting for a phone call from her son. When the phone rang inside and not outside on the portable phone, she wondered why. It turns out she had brought the TV remote outside instead of the phone.

Another friend left his shoes out on the patio overnight. He put his shoes on, and after running some errands for a few hours, he was back home in the garage when he heard a squeak coming from his shoe. He took his shoe off and out jumped a tiny toad, which had been there all the while.

Finally, their friend Olan has a slight hearing-loss problem. (Like who doesn’t?) His wife, Carole, said to him, “Where are the kids?” He replied, “In the refrigerator in the garage.” He thought she had asked, “Where is the cake?”

That’s it for this week. Once again, geezers rule! Please keep those “moments” coming. Send them to me at greengeezer9@comcast.net Looking forward to getting your emails.
