Turn the page … and keep motivated through life

By Brad Wagner

SUN CITY – Writing is difficult. For some it is an impossibility. For others it can take a lifetime to master. According to Daniel Levitin, in his book, “This is Your Brain on Music,” it takes 10,000 hours, or about 10 years to become an expert at something. Thus, it is no surprise that Sun City resident JoAnn T. Neis of N.11 has written a well-received novel entitled, “The Other Half of a Broken Heart.”

“When I was little, I used to do a lot of reading. I loved mysteries,” said Neis. She went to Loyola College and majored in English. Neis taught for a few years, all the while continuing to write. “I wrote short stories,” said Neis.

“The Other Half of a Broken Heart” is a mystery. “I’ve always loved mysteries,” said Neis. The process of writing a book is a long and trying one. “You have to reread your book many times to make sure that everything falls into place … that all the clues work out,” said Neis. When talking with a friend, Neis mentioned that, “I feel like I lost friends [when I finished the book],” because her characters had become such a fixture in her life.

JoAnn T. Neis’ book, “The Other Side of a Broken Heart,” is available on Amazon.com. It can be found by using either the title of the book or the author’s full name. The book is available in hardcover, paperback, and is available on any of the E-readers.

The heart of Neis’ story is to persevere. To keep working on whatever it is that you want to do in life. “I just kept writing,” said Neis.
