Sun City, a patchwork of lifestyle

By Kay Clark

SUN CITY – Remember the quilt that was in the Sew ‘N Sews room? It needed some repair, so one of the ladies in the group, Ellie Sudduth, took it home, cleaned and fixed it up, but with their newly expanded space where the computer club used to be, she felt a new quilt could be in order. The previous one was then donated elsewhere.

It was Ellie who thought of creating scenes for the quilt from none other than Sun City. Everyone in the group loved the idea, and the supplies needed were approved and purchased along with the use of a long-arm quilter that professionally finishes the quilt. Seven ladies from the Sew ‘N Sews club made at least one if not two of the blocks for the quilt: Donna Wood, Donna Peterson, Carol Birosak, Joanne Frediani, Joan Marett, Ellie Sudduth, and Chris Sweeney.

After the blocks were designed, Ellie cut each block to size and created the final arrangement. She then pieced them together and added the border. All that was left to do was the binding and piping. Marlene Williams did the special quilting that was needed. All of the ladies were quite pleased with the way it all came together.

The ladies of the club hope that the community of Sun City will enjoy the quilt for many years to come. You’ll find the quilt hung in the sewing room. The end result is of several beautiful, colorful scenes around Sun City. Be sure to check it out. You may find your favorite place.
