Cholesterolphobia: The fear of unwanted cholesterol

By Norma Thompson

As stated in the previous article, normal cholesterol used to be 250 to 300 or even higher. Then around 1984, the parameters changed to 200. Recently, they were lowered to 180 and even down to 150 for people who have had heart attacks.

The current value of the cholesterol-lowering drug industry is estimated at $29 billion. The U.S. spent $19 billion in 2010 on promoting statin lowering drugs, such as Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol, and others. The pharmaceutical industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year advertising that high cholesterol causes heart disease, strokes, and even cancer. It does not!

These drugs are now being prescribed for 36 million potential candidates who have normal cholesterol levels. Even doctors have been misled. Doctors tell you wrongly that foods high in cholesterol and fat relate to high serum cholesterol and heart disease. This is a myth, as more cholesterol is produced in the liver than from what we consume.
