Grafton Food Pantry seeks new home while continuing service

By Brad Wagner

HUNTLEY- Grafton Food Pantry is on the hunt for a new home. Their current location, 12191 Smith Drive, has recently been sold.

Workers at the pantry sees no cause for alarm, however, because their work will not be interrupted.

“We are very proud of the services we provide,” Harriet Ford, board member and spokesperson, said.

Grafton Food pantry currently provides about 200 families with meals every month.

“So many individuals, churches, service groups, and neighborhoods have reached out … [by] both donating time, dollars, and coming together to help end hunger,” Ford said.

Grafton Food Pantry serves all of Huntley, the Village of Lakewood, and portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake. It is a 501 C(3), non-profit corporation that operates solely on donations. It is not associated with any government office, and does not receive government funding. It is a partnering agency with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

“We have great friends in Sun City,” Ford said, adding the pantry “would not be able to survive without Sun City [residents].”

Ideally Grafton Food Pantry would like to stay in Huntley and would like to find a location that has about 2500 square feet.

“We would like to find a location at a reasonable rate, with ample parking, and a long-term lease,” Ford said. “We will take any assistance we can get.”

Anyone with information on a possible new location can call 847-612-5459. Those interested in volunteering or donating can call 847-485-0922.
