Tennis Club stages 60s flashback party

By Brad Wagner

SUN CITY – Spring is slowly but surely making its way back into our lives. With spring comes the lobs, serves, and volleys of tennis, and no one anticipates tennis season like the Tall Oaks Tennis Club.

Sheila Gillis has been a part of the club for the past 10 years and shared all that the club has to offer.

“We have it all: the “everyday play” that people enjoy whether it’s a tennis league, play group, lessons, or a pick-up game; the tennis socials; and the great, friendly tennis competition that can be found at any level of play, from very beginner levels up to very advanced levels,” Gillis said.

Formerly known as “Welcome Back to Tennis,” the Tall Oaks Tennis Club has a 2013 season kickoff on Saturday, May 11 at the courts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a party at the Country Café at 5 p.m. The PFLASHBAK Band will be performing from 6 to 10 p.m. Reservations are required and guests are responsible for their own food and beverages. The party will be a ‘60s theme.

“We thought it would be a blast from the past to get dressed up in those old ‘60s clothes and make it fun and lighthearted for everyone,” Gillis said.
Many of the clubs members have been tennis players for many years, but that by no means implies that a person needs experience with the sport to join.

“Some [members] started playing tennis again after taking a ‘rest’ from it for quite a long time, and there are people who never picked up a racquet in their lives before, and Tennis has become one of their favorite activities in Del Webb,” Gillis said.
