Huntley Community Radio update: March 26, 2015

By Dorothy Litwin

Calendars – how could we manage without them? March 20 told us that spring had arrived. April 3 starts the eight days of Passover, and April 5 gives us Easter Sunday. After one of our worst winters ever, we at Huntley Radio wish all of our friends, and especially our listeners, a glorious spring and happy holidays.

As we glanced at our calendars, we wondered if you’re aware of what you might be missing each day of the week. HCR offers a plethora of radio shows appealing to the varied interests of many. We have programs featuring Centegra Health Systems physician lectures on medical issues, shows produced by Huntley High school called “Raider Radio,” and several produced by our McHenry College interns. “Once Upon a Time” features short stories read by hosts Bill and Carol Waxenberg or sometimes the authors themselves. Every morning at 7 a.m., Mike Caserno welcomes the day with music, news, and interesting interviews; and every evening at 6 p.m., Bill Geheren brings the latest evening news . Bill also offers his fun show every weekday night “Two Dudes and the Duchess.”

If you have pets, you should listen to Robin Massey’s program “What’s All the Bark About” or veterinarian Dr. Debra Junkins and her staff from the Pet Vet Animal Clinic and their show “Pondering Our Paws.” We have local restaurant, entertainment, and book reviews. Love classical music? Listen to Joellen Freeding’s “Classical Music at its Best” or the Elgin Symphony’s “Listeners’ Club” with Jim Kendros and Wendy Evans. We have great interview programs and interesting shows on as such diverse subjects as tennis, travel, yoga, sports, books, gardening, comedy, food, finance, disabilities, the outdoors, the indoors and one of my favorites – “Old Time Radio.”

Are you a music lover? In addition to our classical music, we present every genre of music from polka, the blues, hard rock, the Beatles, jazz, swing, country, and music from the 40s, 50s, and beyond.

If you want to find the dates and times of any of these programs, go to our website at www.huntleyradio.com. If you have a subject that we haven’t covered, please write me at Dorothy.Litwin@huntleyradio.org, and we will find an expert to host it. Remember, you can listen to HCR radio on your computer or on station 101.5FM…ENJOY!
