To enhance our readers’ food repertoire, we try to critique as many different ethnic restaurants as possible. The only requirement we have is that fussy Nancy can find something that she would like to eat. When we spotted the Stockholm’s Restaurant, it piqued our interest and we decided to check it out. When we walked in, it was a typical neighborhood “Vardshus” (tavern in Swedish). It is small in size with only 11 tables, but has a huge bar and an outside courtyard with eight additional tables.

To start off our Swedish lunch, we decided on an appetizer of Papas Italiano ($9.49). This was freshly made potato chips covered in a garlic cream sauce, then topped with parmesan cheese, crumbled bacon, diced prosciutto, tomatoes, and chives. This was everything we thought it would be and more, OMG!!!

When we looked up, we saw the American Heart Association picketing our table.

Continuing with the Swedish theme, Nancy decided to have the New Orleans Wrap ($10.99). This was a combination of breaded buffalo shrimp and crawfish with jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a spicy bistro sauce all wrapped up in a honey wheat tortilla. It was served with fries. They came in handy since she dredged them through the remaining garlic cream sauce from the appetizer. If she could have, she would have licked the plate clean.

Now on to Jim’s Swedish experience. He chose the Barbecue Cuban Sandwich ($12.49). This was barbecue pulled pork topped with Swiss cheese, prosciutto, pickles, honey Dijon aioli, and served on panini bread with fries. I don’t know what country or planet this combination came from, but it sounded bizarre enough for him to try, and it turned out to be really good.

I was curious as to why Jim left a few bites of his sandwich, when he usually eats everything that is not nailed down. I found out why when he ordered the Root Beer Float ($6.49) for dessert. It was homemade root beer with Graham’s vanilla ice cream. This was a little pricey, but when you taste it, you’ll realize it is worth it. This was yummy.

CAUTION: When you disturb the ice cream with your spoon, there will be root beer foam all over! Man your straw and start slurping!!!

Not surprisingly, we thought we recognized Rod Serling sitting at the table next to us. Think about it… We had an Italian appetizer. Nancy had Cajun food in a tortilla. I had barbecue in a Cuban sandwich. We topped it all off with an All American root beer float in a Swedish restaurant. Everybody start singing, “Do-Do-Doo-Do…Do-Do-Doo-Do” (the Twilight Zone theme song, get it?)

Note: They do have Swedish Meatballs on the menu, but ordering that would have been just weird!!!

FYI: Handicap accessible and street parking only.

The cost for our detour into “The Stockholm Zone” was $47.26. Eerie…

Jim’s take: I would make the trip again just for the appetizer. I could eat it all day. The root beer float is a must!!!

Nancy’s take: Our waitress got a slap on her hand when trying to clear away the appetizer plate. I would kill for that garlic cram sauce, it’s that good!
