Huntley Veterans Memorial Breaks Ground

By My Sunday News

The Huntley Area Veterans Foundation goal of a Veterans Memorial is nearly complete. On Wednesday, March 9 the Foundation broke ground with the village of Huntley in the town square. There are just a few weeks remaining to purchase bricks to be placed at the memorial in time for the dedication ceremony. All brick orders are due by March 31 for on-time installation.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the progress and to see the memorial starting to take shape in the town square,” stated Foundation President, Dawn Ellison. “We anticipate that the memorial should be completed on time for a July 2 dedication.”

The monument will include black granite slabs recognizing each branch of service, along with a flag for each branch and a POW and Purple Hearts bench. The foundation will continue selling bricks to be installed at the site through March 31. Final brick orders for guaranteed on-time installation should be purchased by the end of the month. A downloadable order form is available on the group’s website.

The 501(c)(3) organization has been busy spreading news of the memorial project, speaking with community organizations, and participating in community events like farmer’s markets, Huntley Fall Fest, and the recent Huntley Expo.

Ellison added, “There has been a great amount of community support for this project, and the heartfelt generosity of organizations, businesses and citizens who have contributed toward the memorial is greatly appreciated.”

Additional information regarding purchasing of a brick or the status of the project is available at www.huntleyveterans.org.
