Board vacancies almost resolved

By Dwight Esau

SUN CITY – Three of the four vacancies on the Sun City board of directors for the 2017 term have been filled, but one remains.

According to Sun City Bylaws article 3.6(c), the board has authority to appoint a replacement for any vacancy among its members. It is anticipated that the board will exercise this authority, according to Executive Director Deanna Loughran.

The board is requesting letters of interest from residents who are willing to volunteer for a one-year term on the board in 2017. The form to be used in submitting letters is available on the Sun City website, and information regarding a link to the site is provided in the November 4 e-blast from Loughran. Letters may be submitted to the Executive Director through November 30. The letters will be reviewed by board members, and interviews will be scheduled with selected applicants prior to the end of the year. The selected member, after approval by a majority of the current board members, will be seated as early as possible in 2017.

This procedure was made necessary after the resignation of Jim Lunn from the initial list of four candidates selected earlier this year. Three other new board members will take office in January. They are Marilynn Behrendt, Robert McGouey, and current board president Dennis O’Leary. Behrendt and McGouey were elected by acclamation to fill vacant seats, and O’Leary was re-elected for a second two-year term, also by acclamation.

Holdover board members whose terms are not expiring this year are Bonnie Bayser, Linda Davis, and Steve Bytnar.
