What season is it?

By Jim & Nancy Eggers

Jim and Nancy do not disclose the fact that they will review a restaurant before they attend, ensuring their reviews are unbiased and uninfluenced by their position with the Sun Day.

We went shopping for furniture at Penny Mustard, where we found out that “Penny” has no reference to the price by any stretch of the imagination. We were looking for two movie theater recliners, and they had to pass Nancy’s rigorous inspection. After two hours of being folded up like a taco, laid out like a flatbread, and ejected like an F-16 fighter pilot, she had her workout for the day, and so did my wallet. We were both getting “hangry.”

We always thought that there were just four seasons. No, not Frankie Valli silly, we mean spring, summer, fall, and winter. Here in the midwest we frequently get all four seasons in one day!!! In Schaumburg, however, they have 52 seasons, we’re referring to Seasons 52 Fresh Grill.

When we walked in, we were taken aback by the dećor. It was high-end gorgeous; rich wood accents were everywhere, including the ceiling and the booths. There were stocked wooden wine racks adorning the walls. They had an open kitchen on one side, and a huge bar on the other. The ambiance was elegance personified.

Jim had his workout signing his life away for everything we purchased today. I had my strenuous workout at “Penny’s” gym. As a result, we were both starving and in need of food. We are trained professionals, after all.

Nancy’s eyes spotted one of her favorite food groups, and ordered the Lump Crabcake Sandwich ($14.95). This was Maryland style with lettuce, tomato, mustard sauce, and served on a brioche bun. This came with your choice of one side and she chose a bowl of Lobster Bisque for a $2 upcharge. The soup was full of lobster bits and it was made with sherry wine and chives. The soup was really delicious, and her crabcake sandwich was tasty.

Jim wanted to try the Crispy Braised Short Rib Sandwich ($12.25). This was served with cheddar, pickled red onion, golden beets, horseradish crema, and au jus dip. He also ordered the bowl of Lobster Bisque for a $2 upcharge for his side. To his surprise, his sandwich was served on a folded tortilla. The bits of braised short rib tasted good, and if you were to look very closely, you may be able to see the pickled onions and beets. He’s still looking for the cheddar cheese.

After finishing our entrees we were still hungry and decided to order our own desserts. Our waitress brought over a tray of desserts for us to choose from. These were all served in an oversized shot glass. Nancy had the Key Lime Pie ($3), which had a pecan crust and toasted meringue top. I had the Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cannoli ($3), which was a cinnamon cannoli shell with ricotta and mascarpone, chocolate chips, and raspberry sauce. These miniscule morsels were a sweet treat and really hit the spot.

In conclusion, the dećor is beautiful and the food is tasty. We’re still trying to figure out how come Schaumburg has 52 seasons and Huntley has only four.

The price for our seasonal meal was $48.16. When we were leaving, we almost forgot our doggie bag! Oh wait, there was none…

FYI: This restaurant is handicap accessible.

Jim’s take: My food was tasty, but I’m still hungry.

Nancy’s take: I won; I had a bit more to eat with my crabcake sandwich. Unfortunately, I’m still hungry too.
