Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners Annual Spring Plant Sale

By Dwight Esau

This is being written on April 27. It is snowing, hard. Forecasters say more than six inches of the white stuff will fall today.

But this doesn’t faze the Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners organization. They are proceeding full speed ahead with their annual spring plant sale in Woodstock on Sunday, May 19. The event starts at 10 a.m. and runs until everything is sold out.

Location is the Illinois Extension building, 1102 McConnell Road. Many members of this group are Sun City residents. The event will be held rain or shine.

The selection of plants will include perennials, bulbs, herbs, vegetable starts, and annuals. Most of these plants have been grown by U of I master gardeners, and all of the plants offered are well-suited to area gardens, according to committee co-chairman Suzanne Eck. The sale is on a first come, first-served basis, cash or checks only.

Several Extension Master Gardeners will be onsite to answer gardening questions and assist attendees in plant selection.

“We are looking forward to this sale, close to the end of May, when gardeners are looking for healthy, hardy, unique plants that will thrive in their gardens,” said Eck.

The UJ of I Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners are a group of more than 130 volunteers sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension. These volunteers complete rigorous training in horticulture and botany and they share unbiased, research-based information with home landscapers and gardeners.
