In the last issue of this paper I gave some inaccurate information on siding for Sun City homes. I should have researched a little further and not relied on a single source. I received an email from Larry Bernstein of Larry’s Home Maintenance who supplied the following corrections. There were three suppliers of siding for Sun City. Mastic brand siding was used on most of the Pulte homes but not all. The Del Webb homes used some Alside Siding and some Mastic siding. There is a 3rd brand of siding, however neither ABC Supply nor Larry knew the name.
Larry went to ABC Supply and told them that he needed siding for Sun City. The lady rolled her eyes and asked why they were getting so many calls about the siding. It turns out they knew nothing about the article and they only handle one type of the siding used in Sun City, Mastic. One issue is that ABC Supply is a wholesale only and residents cannot purchase from them.
I knew of one contractor who did siding repair work in Sun City but he is no longer doing that work. Larry of Larry’s Home Maintenance has access to both the Mastic and Alside siding and he can purchase from the wholesale only suppliers.
Question: We have a Mackinac with a front porch that faces the north. The post is rotting out at the base. Do you know who we could call to fix this?
Answer: Most woodchucks do their own home maintenance and therefore have no experience with handymen and contractors, so they have no reliable way to make recommendations. We are constantly asked if any of our members are available to hire for handyman work. There were one or two in past years, but right now I don’t know of any.
