Village of Huntley assures residents their survey voices are heard

By Michelle Moreno

HUNTLEY – Sun City accounts for the most represented area in the 2019 Village of Huntley resident survey. The Village of Huntley resident survey has been conducted annually since 2010 to obtain a better understanding of residential opinions. The 15-question survey ranged from simple subjects including quality of life within the village to the feeling of public safety.

Based on the results, Sun City has continued to come out on top as the most represented area since 2016. This year, Sun City came in at a 47.3 percent respondent rate from the 1,128 residents that participated throughout the Huntley area.

Besides answering village related questions, residents were given the opportunity to leave written comments, some of which have been made available for viewing within the results of the survey.

While most comments are in favor of the efforts the Village of Huntley has made throughout the year, some had their reservations regarding certain matters.

Assistant Village Manager, Lisa Armour, assured that those comments are taken very seriously in terms of making improvements to the community.

“We do look at the comments and if there’s issues that need to be addressed, we try to follow up on those as quickly as we can,” she said.

Armour was quite pleased as the results of this year’s survey demonstrated a 9.7 percent increase in participation from 2018.

“Our goal is to see the numbers get higher each year. We want to see the numbers improve. As for the residents of Sun City, they are very active members of the community so overall, we get a good representation from that area every year,” Armour explained.

Most of the complaints seen in this year’s survey revolved around the need for more restaurants and other related business efforts.

“We do use the numbers from the survey in our budget documents to measure performance and give us a good idea of other opportunities we can take to make improvements in Huntley. We do make contact with retailers for example. It’s a good way to see if we’re doing a good job,” she said.

The 2019 Village of Huntley survey was available from July 26 through August 12. Residents were given notice through the Village’s website, Facebook page, and Huntley e-mail newsletter.
