Who keeps taking my rocks?

By Antoinette Adams

I search for just the right rock. It has to be a certain size and shape for me to even consider them. I have collected them from all over the country just to cover with paint and bring out the beauty that lies dormant.

I have a varied selection of paints and brushes I use for my craft. Each rock is meticulously cleaned and inspected. Then the painting process begins. I select any number of ideas I have collected over the years. Memories from travels, friends, sceneries and loved ones. Some ideas are right under my nose, in my yard or house, a neighbor’s house or just from simple conversations. I collect and store my ideas way back in my head to retrieve at just the right time.

Usually, a bottom coat is applied to give a good base to my creation. Sometimes a flower or a face will be next. Sometimes a smile sometimes a frown – depends on my mood. Sometimes an animal sometimes a sky. You see it all depends on me. I have complete control over that rock that is now becoming a beautiful center piece of attraction. Upon completion of the intricate painting process each rock is sprayed with a clear coat of Rust Oleum to preserve the art work.

I then meticulously search for areas around the Fountain View walking path to help decorate. My dog is an accomplice in this you see, as I use her as a walking partner so as to disguise my true reasoning for my walk. Also, the exercise is good for both of us.

I place my creations in trees, on rocks (who are, of course, jealous) on benches, against lights and around the bathrooms. They can be found in the front of the lodge and behind it. You (and I) just never know where they will settle.

They are placed with loving care and admired with a photo for my lasting pleasure.

They are, however, disappearing at an alarming rate. Within days the landscape is barren again and I must get back to work. For those taking my creations, I am overwhelmed that you consider my labor of love worthy enough to decorate your house and life.

We are extremely blessed in this community to be able to have the amenities at our disposal and to have the ability to take advantage of them. Every day we are amazed by the friendliness, generosity and compassion we encounter by our meetings and involvements.

May God Bless each and every one of us as we continue our journey together.

If you don’t mind, however, I need to get my brushes warmed up.
