Q. Karen from N10 writes: I’ve noticed the “lost and found” box in the fitness center. Is that for items that were lost only in the gym or for anywhere in the Lodge? What steps does the staff take to find the owners, and what happens to unclaimed items?

A. There seems to be a never-ending flow of lost and found items here in Sun City. In discussing this topic with First Residential personnel, I learned that for items found anywhere in the lodges, or on the property, there are two lost and found locations, one in each lodge.

In the Meadow View Lodge, found items are turned in and stored at the lower-level fitness desk. A majority of the items are found by the cleaning and maintenance staff. One of the more unusual items found was a walking cane that remained unclaimed for several weeks. Typical items include phones, jewelry, towels, and miscellaneous clothing items.

The Prairie Lodge is home to a much larger lost and found collection. A recent perusal of items included water bottles, a nebulizer, sunglasses, eyeglasses, a koozie, a pair of children’s shoes (Nike size 3Y), body and sunscreen lotions, a variety of hats, earbuds, a bra, and an 8-by-11-inch laminated workout sheet with detailed instructions. Additionally, at least two Apple watches have recently been turned in.

Both locations hold onto these found items for a few months before donating them to Goodwill. Valuable items (such as jewelry, watches, and phones) are held for longer periods in the hope that the owner will return to claim them.
