The Eggers go to Eggville

By

Jim and Nancy do not disclose the fact that they will review a restaurant before they attend, ensuring their reviews are unbiased and uninfluenced by their position with the Sun Day.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant, and Jim is always hungry one-hundred percent.

He thinks about breakfast with eggs and bacon, all morning long from the time he awakens.

The sausage is salty, the pancakes are sweet, no matter how much, he will continue to eat.

Whether it be skillet or omelet, scrambler or waffle, he’ll eat it all, no matter how awful.

With eggs over easy and crispy hashbrowns, and toast with butter to help it slide down.

Off we went to get our fill, to a restaurant in Cary that’s called Eggville. (Dr. Seuss, eat your heart out)!!!

Eggville Café

Directions: Take Rte. 47 North to Algonquin Road, East to Rte. 31, North to Rte. 14, East to restaurant.

Estimated Travel Time: 30 minutes

When we pulled up to the large stand-alone restaurant, you can’t help but notice the statue of a giant chicken guarding the front door. I wonder if he is related to the giant chicken outside of Crandall’s Restaurant in Hebron. Eggville’s eggs must be huge!!! This café is styled after most of the breakfast/lunch venues are now a days with the gray/white walls, gray tiled floors, and the decorative tile on the wall in the back of the restaurant. Eggville also has a coffee bar right inside the door for customers who need their caffeine fix on the way to work.

In keeping with Jim’s breakfast craving, he decided on the Mexican Omelet ($16). This was an omelet stuffed with chorizo, jalapeno peppers, onions, pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, and served with house made salsa on the side. It comes with hashbrowns or fruit, and toast or pancakes. He chose the hashbrowns (crispy) and (3) pancakes. This breakfast hit the spot for him. The omelet was overflowing with ingredients and the pancakes were light and fluffy. Just a heads up, they don’t use real maple syrup. If you don’t want colored corn syrup you must pay a $2 upcharge for the real syrup. Come on Eggville, real maple syrup is not that expensive, but at least it is an available option. He took half his omelet home with him in a doggie bag.

Nancy is not a lover of breakfast and never has been. When she saw the Strawberry Poppyseed Salad ($13.50), a smile was plastered all over her face and she wouldn’t have to eat a breakfast entree since strawberries are in season right now. This salad consisted of mixed greens, grilled chicken, mandarin oranges, fresh pineapple (not the canned stuff), strawberries, blueberries, and pecans with poppyseed dressing. She asked them to keep off the blueberries and give her more strawberries or mandarin oranges. She forced herself, but she managed to eat the whole thing and enjoyed the fruit immensely. Unfortunately, she thought the chicken was bland. There was no seasoning on it.

FYI: This restaurant is handicap accessible. Beware of the giant chicken statue, he’s protecting his eggs since they are at an all-time high price right now.

We meant what we said and we said what we meant.

Eggville delivers one-hundred percent.

Give Eggville Café a try.

The Eggers did, oh my!

The price for the Eggers trip to Eggville was $36.38. We’re poets, and we didn’t even know its…

There once was a man from Nantucket…Maybe we should stop with the poetry now.

Jim’s take: My omelet had just enough heat from the jalapeno peppers to make it interesting.

Nancy’s take: The only complaint I have is there was no bread to go with my salad. Just eating salad is boring.
