Huge savings through radio shopping

By Don Grady

I have my favorite radio channel that broadcasts up-to-the-minute news. But, after hearing the same news several times, I will begin to “surf” the AM channel for a little variety.

Not long ago, I stumbled on to a channel that offered a much different venue. “Call in and save up to 60% on purchases of advertised services and products” said the announcer. I thought it was a commercial or a gimmick, but he was convincing enough to get my attention. The program was the Radio Shopping Show on channel WRMN, AM 1410, in Elgin. The Radio Shopping Show is a unique barter marketing program. Businesses offer products and services on The Radio Shopping Show in exchange for advertising and publicity. According to the radio station’s website, the show began in 1981, and since then, tens of thousands of people have saved literally millions of dollars.

I checked out the station’s website and was amazed at the variety of products and services. There are a number of discounted hotel offers in some nice vacation spots. Joanie Berg, one of our Sun City residents, wrote in to the Frugal Forum and related the experience that she and her husband, Carter, have had with radio shopping: “We have been using WRMN AM in ELGIN and also a radio station in Las Vegas. We have nothing but good things to say about our experience with shopping on the radio stations. We have used a coupon to stay in Williams, AZ, to go on the train to the Grand Canyon; motels / hotels in Arizona, California, Florida, Missouri, Wisconsin; for bowling parties, pizza places, etc.”

You, too, can cash in on the savings! Just listen to WRMN, AM 1410, check out their website at www.wrmn1410.com or call them at 847-931-1410.
