Judy of Neighborhood 10 inquires: “Living in a detached home, we are limited in our use of our in-ground irrigation system to the alternating odd-even day and daily hourly restrictions. During the current heat wave and dry spell, I often observed common area parkways along Del Webb, Sun City, and Countryview Blvd., utilizing sprinkler systems being irrigated almost daily, sometimes as early as 5 a.m. Why is there a difference between homeowner use and community use concerning the outdoor water restrictions?”

Answer: Thanks for asking, Judy. All detached homes in Del Webb receive their water, for both inside and outside use, from the Town of Huntley. To manage the Town’s water resources, Huntley has created an odd-even system for outdoor watering and also restricts the hours for outdoor watering. According to the Facilities Department of Del Webb, our irrigation systems along common areas do not draw from Huntley’s municipal water resources. The water used within Del Webb common areas primarily comes from Wildflower Lake, where two massive 100 HP pumps move water from the lake into the piping systems that feed the sprinklers along the roads you mentioned. Supplemental water can also be drawn from a lake within the golf course. Wildflower Lake receives its water from the Kishwaukee River and rainwater. There are exceptions to common area water sourcing; water that is required for all townhomes, and water used in the parks (located in Neighborhoods 2, 3,12 and 27) does come from the Town’s 5 deep wells. Accordingly, usage in those areas abides by the town’s usage guidelines.
