Shops on Main offers new opportunities to local creators

By

Denisee Garza has been busy with her successful business, DD Creations, for about a decade now.

On November 1, DD Creations, will be part of the 10 businesses Shops on Main Village of Huntley incubator business shops at Route 47 and Main Street. Village officials hope most shops will be open at the former Hackett House site by or around November 10.

“I love my community and am involved in many ways,” Garza said. “I am a Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce member and sponsor youth football. The Shops on Main program will be a good way to find out if we can become a brick-and-mortar store in Huntley. I’ve been based out of my home, with the help of my five boys, ages 19, 15, 10, 6 and 4 and my husband Daniel, who is my biggest cheerleader.”

DD Creations’ site will be inside the former Hackett House, while six smaller shops outside. November 10 has been selected as the official first day of the November and December Shops on Main program. Sites will be leased for an average of $2,500 for 2025-26, according to the village.

Stocker said parking will be available directly on-site, as well as within walking distance at public lots and on-street spaces just to the east and north of the Shops on Main property. There will be feature signage as well.

“Construction is moving along smoothly and we’re on track for our official opening day of November 10,” Melissa Stocker, Village of Huntley Develop Manager said. “All 10 retail businesses are actively preparing: refining product lines, working through marketing plans, and finalizing the details required to launch fully stocked, welcoming stores. This group of entrepreneurs represents a vibrant mix of retail categories, including clothing, personalized goods, food products, jewelry, art and more. We believe this mix will compliment Huntley’s exciting retail landscape and provide an exciting new destination for both residents and visitors.”

Garza grew up in Berwyn, Ill., and worked at the local Morton School District but always wished to have a niche in running a business. At DD Creations, one can find products such as laser engraving, custom apparel, hats, cutting boards, finished baskets and holiday related items.

“I’ve always had a love for all things crafty and this is how DD Creations was born,” Garza wrote on her business Facebook page. “This was always driven by my passion to create memorable things that could help people remember things that matter in life. There is no better feeling than being able to help customers bring their ideas to life and help them with beautiful memories.”

The incubator businesses at Shops on Main will also include: Bare Rags; Charm Candy, Chef Joanne Thomas; Sew Mine; The Find Locally Sourced Vintage; Wild Ink Emody Your Poetry; Pots and Pies Bakery and Huntley Art Hub Gallery.
