Police Academy alumni marks 14 years

By

For more than a dozen years, alumni of the Huntley Citizens Police Academy have been assisting at village events.

Civic groups represented included the Huntley Police Department Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA), was on hand at the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce’s EXPO to get the word out on their efforts.

The group, which includes several Sun City residents, is 14 years old, and members have completed the police department citizens information course. They then help out at many community events, such as the upcoming “Don’t Be Fooled by a Disability” 5K run to benefit the Special Olympics Illinois Torch Run, set for April 11.

“Our organization is currently made up of graduates of the Citizens Police Academy, that is a class that is held annually by the Huntley Police Department,” Alumni Association President Jerry Reedy said. Currently the 2026 Academy class is in session and is meeting once a week for a couple of months. Their graduation ceremony is currently planned for May 6. The current class is the 20th such class, and since its inception each class has always included participants who live in Huntley’s Sun City.

“The current alumni association is made up of approximately 100 Citizens Police Academy graduates who meet monthly to familiarize themselves with topics related to the Huntley community, to law enforcement, and-or to personal growth topics enabling participants to become better citizens of their community. In 2026 the organization will hear presentations from Huntley Village President Tim Hoeft; Huntley Village Manager Dave Johnson; Huntley Chief of Police Linda Hooten; Huntley Fire Chief Dan Wagner and the Huntley Police Commission and numerous other speakers and topics that will equip members to know the Village and especially their Village’s first responders better.

“The Alumni group is also committed to volunteerism and supports organizations and events that make the Village of Huntley an awesome place to live or visit,” Reedy said. “In 2025 the organization contributed nearly a thousand hours of volunteer work at 33 different events in the community. The goals of the group are to continue its growth, support law enforcement, and support events that are happening in the Village of Huntley.”
