The Sun City Pickleball Club hosted its men’s division tournament at Tall Oaks Courts Sept. 18, which was the lone division held that day due to the weather.

There were 55 participants and 35 volunteers, who contributed with cooking hot dogs to singing the National Anthem.

At the 2.5 rating, Dan Farmer took gold while Richard Cooney won silver and Dan Ramirez captured the bronze medal.

At 3.0 rating, doubles, Larry Colonero and Steve Galligan won gold while Doug Anderson and Bobby Brown won silver and Mike Neveaux and Roger Lewis took bronze.

At 3.5 doubles, Keith Moderhack and John Hecker prevailed for gold; Dick Campbell and Jerry Seyffert won silver and Joe Jablonski and Bob Oelson won bronze.

At 4.0 doubles, it was Jim Daciolos and John Schwan winning gold while Barry Newman and Ken Storm won silver and Mike Christy and Paul Grant took bronze.

Schwan earlier this summer won the gold medal at Chicago SixCounty; two gold medals at the Wisconsin State Senior Olympics and silver at Illinois Senior Olympics.

“The competition gets tougher each year as new, younger players enter my bracket (4.0-4-5, ages 75-79),” Schwan said. “It’s fun because each year is a bigger challenge than the year before. I had a good summer season Interestingly, I found the Sun City tournament the most competitive of them all. Our club is developing more very competitive players each year as evidenced by over 12 players in the 4.0 bracket in this year’s tournament.”

Mixed doubles players, 3.0 rating, competed in a tournament Sept. 26 at Tall Oaks Courts. There were six teams who played five rounds and 15 volunteers assisted,

Fred and Kathryn Senft won the gold medal, while Linda Lindgren and John Hoaglund earned silver and Nancy Jenks and Larry Colonero won the bronze medal.
