Laughter by Paul: September 20, 2012

By Paul Shumate

A tornado hit a farmhouse just before dawn. It lifted the roof off, picked up the beds in which the farmer and his wife slept, and set them down gently in the next county. The wife began to cry.

“Don’t be scared, Doris,” her husband said. “We are not hurt.”

“I’m happy,” replied Susan, “because this is the first time in 15 years that we’ve been out together.”

Last week Steve was standing in a ticket line at O’Hare and a man in a line parallel to Steve’s had a golf bag slung over his shoulder. Since the line was long and not moving quickly Steve started a conversation. Steve admired the man’s golf bag, and the man stated he was on the PGA tour. Then he turned to Steve and asked, “Do you play?”

Steve shook his head. “I used to play but I quit because I wasn’t very good. I consistently shot in the lower seventies.”

The man whistled and then asked, “Did you say you shot in the low seventies?”

“Yes”. Steve admitted.

“Consistently?” the man queried.

“Every hole,” Steve confessed.
