For several hours a week, I work at the Huntley Library re-shelving items. During this process, opportunity presents itself for me to peruse materials Iā€™d not see while looking on my own. Very often I say to myself, oh, that looks interesting … and then I keep it or jot down the info. Iā€™ll share some with you that pique my interest.

It seems everyone has some aches and pains. Weā€™d probably all like to DO something about those that does not involve expense, PT, drugs, and/or leotards! This massage book appears to have some potential, plus it has loads of pictures and specific, step-by-step instructions. The front cover says ā€œover 100 simple techniques for re-energizing body and mindā€. Exercises are organized by symptom. Less than 100 pages.

Tired of chicken wings as an appetizer? Huntley Library has hundreds of cookbooks! This one looked fun. Excellent photos. TINY FOOD PARTY: bite-sized recipes for miniature meals. Book sections include tiny snacks, itty-bitty entrees, desserts, plus fancy drinks. Check out page 122 for petite cinnamon-sugar palmiersā€¦a mini-version of ā€˜elephant ears.ā€™ How about those next time you host cards or book club?

Elizabeth and Hazel: two women of Little Rock

Where were you in September 1957? Can you remember the desegregation of schools in Little Rock? Does an iconic photograph come to mind? An interesting looking book has that picture on the front cover. Itā€™s called: ELIZABETH AND HAZEL: two women of Little Rock. These two teens were on polar opposite sides that day; Elizabeth, one of the Little Rock Nine, and Hazel, part of the taunting white crowd. Author David Margolick ā€œcharts the labyrinthine turns of this complex relationshipā€¦ā€ because, unbeknownst to the vast majority of Americans, a few years later, Hazel reached out to Elizabeth to apologize.
