Geezer Moments: January 13, 2011

By Sam Geati

Kicking off 2011 with her “moment” is our neighbor Lorraine McGuire with what was her one and only “geezer moment” of 2010. Right, Lorraine? She was carefully packing to take an appetizer to a group lunch. She included the plate, spreader, crackers, and was ready to go. Upon arriving at the lunch, she discovered she had left the main dip at home in the refrigerator. Her husband, Jim, is pleased that it wasn’t his doing.

Then there’s my wife, Judy, who has had several “geezer moments” recently. For example, she was driving home and somehow passed up our house and pulled into our neighbor’s driveway two houses down. She blames that one on the sameness of our homes.

Moment #2 for Judy also occurred while driving. This time she discovered that the side of her dental crown was missing. She immediately placed a call to the dentist’s office to make an appointment. Luckily, the office was closed when she called because she later remembered that this piece had been missing when she last visited the dentist’s office over six months ago.

Finally, did you hear this story about grandmas? One day, while walking with her grandson, grandma saw him pick something off the ground and starting to put it in his mouth. She quickly took the item away from him and asked him not to do that. The grandson asked, “Why?” She explained because it’s been on the ground, it’s dirty, and probably filled with germs. At this point, the grandson looked at his grandmother with total admiration and asked how she knew all this stuff. She responded that all grandmas know this stuff. It’s on the Grandma Test. If you don’t know it, she explained, they won’t let you be a grandma. After a few moments of silence, the grandson said, “I get it. If you don’t pass the test, you have to be a grandpa, right?” “Right,” she said, and smiled.

It’s a new year, and I am sure it will be one filled with many “moments.” Send them to me at greengeezer9@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sammy
