Question: Our house was built in 1999 or 2000. The center bay window gas leaked out and condensation is inside. Can we find out who made the windows so I can buy a replacement? This is a Del Webb house. The garage door has windows. The two side windows of the bay are good. The inside frame opening is 46 ¾” wide by 70 ¾” high.

Answer: The problem you are describing is a seal failure. All of the windows in Sun City are double pane. They are constructed of two pane of glass mounted one half inch apart by a seal around the perimeter. The space between the two panes is filled with an inert gas that retards the passage of heat through the windows. If the seal around the edge of these double pane windows fails moisture will migrate into the space between the panes giving a look similar to the condensation that forms on a cold drink glass in the summer.

Your windows were made by Weathershield, but the warrantee has run out so there is no advantage to get your replacement windows from them. (Pulte houses were built with Simonton Windows and the window replacement is the same.) Any window dealer can order windows that will replace your failed windows. Two dealers that exhibit at the Sun City consumer expo are A Touch of Glass in Lake Villa and D C Brown Window Service in Crystal Lake.

The dealer you select will install the windows for you. This is not a DIY job as it takes some special tools and skills. It is also dangerous to handle these large windowpanes.

Question: I live in a Hanover townhouse in Neighborhood 20. My problem is with the bi-folding closet doors. One of the aligners on the backside at the bottom of one of the doors has gotten bent, thus the doors do not close together. Can you direct me as to where I can purchase these parts? What is the brand name of the doors?

Answer: Take the bent aligner to a hardware or big box store to get the correct replacement. These are common parts.
