The positive side of hope

For much of the past year, the Sun City board of directors has been discussing and studying what to do about ash trees that are or may become infected by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) predator. The discussion has ended. The bottom line board decision is to continue with a two-part program of removal and selective replacement, and treatment, with a long-term goal of saving the species and avoiding its eradication.

Newly-formed marketing committee reviews options for Sun City’s future populace

SUN CITY – It’s year 15 in Sun City’s history in Huntley. All 5,400 original homes have been sold and hundreds of them have changed owners since, some more than once. The famous Sun City lifestyle was marketed skillfully by Del Webb and later by Pulte Homes. The build-out of original homes and lots was robust until 2008, when it was slowed only by a nationwide housing recession.

Huntley business continues growth in 2014-15

Business expansion around Sun City continues at a fast pace, especially in the Regency Square commercial center area at Princeton Drive. New construction projects and renovation of existing spaces are the latest examples of the steady commercial and office expansion that is coming right to Sun City’s doorstep.

Board votes to revisit policy on infected trees

There are two schools of thought regarding what to do with ash trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer. One believes removal and replacement of all infected trees is the best method be­cause treatments available today cannot guarantee a tree will be saved. The other be­lieves treatments can signifi­cantly prolong the life of an infected tree, often for as long as they are used. Aesthetics are sometimes used to defend both positions.

FirstService staff, positions reorganized

At a town meeting in Drendel Ballroom on March 12, about 75 residents discussed a series of personnel moves and a newly emerging staff internal structure.

Residents question Park District officials on referendum

Four district officials came to Sun City on March 6 and discussed this proposal with about 75 residents in Fountain View Center. They included Executive Director Thom Palmer, Athletic Director Jeff Ryder, Recreation Director Debbie Kraus, and Eric Anderson, the district’s financial bond counsel.

Fire, Police chiefs give update to Current Events Club

John Perkins and Ken Caudle, Huntley’s police and fire chief, respectively, stopped by Drendel Hall on March 6 to provide updates on law enforcement and fire protection activities. About 200 Sun City residents attended the event, sponsored by community’s Current Events Club.
