Board declines church rental renewal

After months of intense and wide-ranging debate, the request for the church room rental agreement extension came down to improper use of Sun City logos and pictures on church materials.

Golf Club promotes friendships

Golf probably has attracted the largest number of people to move to Sun City, Huntley. And Whisper Creek Golf Course that winds through the community continues to be a big reason for the success of the Sun City Golf Club, and for the visibility and positive reputation of the development.

Bob Kennedy is one tough softball player. At the Sun City Softball League’s opening ceremonies on May 14, he showed up at Eakin Field wearing shorts and a light jacket amid 45-degree temperatures and 20-mph wind.

The Bat Man

In the Sun City softball league, one thing is virtually certain at almost all games: Don Keene will be in the bleachers watching. “In the last six years, I’ve probably watched all but a handful of games,” he says. “I can’t play, so I watch.” He is undoubtedly the most faithful spectator at any of Sun City’s many sporting events.

A few years ago, Rev. Perry Martin made a quiet, careful decision to leave the church he was pastor at for 20 years in Kansas and start a ministry to senior citizens. After some research, he decided the best way to do this would be to start a non-denominational church in a senior community of 55-and-over residents.

There are no colorful props—no appropriate storefronts, houses, staircases, ships, merry-go-rounds, city streets, parks—nothing to lend visual authenticity to the production. In the Sound of Music, where’s the abbey? Or a staircase with seven charming children singing goodnight to party guests? In Some Like it Hot, where is the mysterious cabaret? Or a train car? In Brigadoon, where are the landscapes symbolizing Scottish moors? In Fiddler on the Roof, where are the rooftops?

Turnouts

Sun City’s Pickleball Club completed its 2010 outdoor season in September with a three-part tournament involving doubles teams. A double-elimination playoff was held in three categories: men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles.
