The gallery will be a vibrant showcase of Sun City’s artistic diversity, featuring over 140 original artworks from more than 40 talented artists of the club. The exhibition will be a rich tapestry of artistic expression, with works in acrylics, oils, pastels, colored pencil & graphite drawings, watercolor, and collage.

Hollis fondly recalls, “A friend of ours introduced us in 2007. We went out together once.” 

Degallado adds, “We talked about music, but we made no plans to get together.”

They were celebrating the Monarchs’ 8-7 comeback win over the Adjusters in the first round of the Sun City Softball Club’s post-season tournament.

Evers, age 5, shouted “go grandpa, go” during the exciting night of softball Aug. 13. Grandad, age 85 years young, came through with a single and three key putouts at home as catcher.

The Huntley area Lions Club is hosting this mobile unit on September 30, allowing Sun City residents to have their hearing and eyes checked conveniently. A Sun City resident generously donated $500 to cover the expenses. The van is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by trained professionals to screen for retinopathy (diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of preventable blindness) and hearing loss. 

Because they were at retirement age, someone suggested the Bierleins check out Del Webb retirement community in Huntley.

Davis’ ride of 400 miles raised funds for the Msrklund Home. Marklund Home’s mission, as described on its web site, “is to make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities.” Davis said her late mother-in-law, Anne Davis, started the family’s support5 of Marklund Home, which has Geneva and Elgin locations. Davis donated $500 to Marklund.

Lang has been driving a bus for fifteen years. Most of her career was in Minnesota, where she also trained others to drive a bus.

Lang said, “I loved the job and the kids. I left the position because I fell in love and I moved here to Sun City. I was hired here as a bus driver for the Huntley School District. Before I left Minnesota, I wrote a letter to each of my students. It was a sad goodbye. But I love it here in Huntley.”   

The village secured an almost $1 million grant from the Small Business Administration via a Community Project appropriation through the office of US Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.).

Dennis O’Leary, Chair of SPAC, emphasized, “The Strategic Planning Committee values your feedback on walking and biking paths within the community. Your participation is integral to our long-range plans for Sun City. Come and share your opinions.” 

Piotrowski said, “When she was in her 80s, my mother documented the first 30 years of her life, from 1922 to 1952.”

Schwan returned with a silver medal he earned at the 2025 National Senior Olympics Games, held in Des Moines, Iowa. Schwan won three of four contested matches in the 75-79 age group, in the 4.0 division. Pickleball was one of 26 sports contested.

“It’ was a lot of fun to play the police department in softball,” Huntley’s new Fire Chief, Dan Wagner, said afterward.

Under the dedicated sponsorship and direction of the Neighborhood Watch/Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NW/NHN) Committee, this year’s NNO is set to take place on August 5.

The softball game at Sun City’s Veterans Memorial Field kicks off National Night out, on Aug. 5, with a start time of 2 p.m. Wagner was named as a HFPD Deputy Chief for Operations before last year. The public may also tour Huntley Fire Station No. 1, 1118 Main St., from 3-7 p.m., Aug. 6.

This year’s annual Huntley NNO event will take place Aug. 5. Locations will be First Responders Softball Game, with Huntley Fire Department, at 2 pm., at Sun City’s Veterans Memorial Field, then at Huntley Town Square, at 5 p.m.

The event, held July 5 at Culver’s of Huntley, has been held there for more than 20 years. Huntley Citizens Police Academy Alumni assisted in accepting tips from customers.

“I saw an ad in My Sun Day News that the track and field and cross country programs at Huntley High School were looking for volunteers from Sun City,” Kane said. “So I contacted the head boys coach, Chris Maxedon and with two others, became a volunteer coach.”

Kane was a new resident to Sun City at the time, but had a background in track and field while growing up in New York State and competing at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.

The Lions Club offered information as it celebrated Helen Keller Day on June 28 at Huntley Area Public Library. The annual event honors Keller, who earned a bachelor’s degree as she overcame blindness.

“I wake up at 2 a.m., and I start to work on the puzzle. I hurt my back and it’s hard to sleep. I like keeping busy, and working on the puzzle gives me satisfaction in the challenge and the process of seeing the picture come together piece by piece,” he said.

Fans arrived by car, golf cart and a few by bicycles. They watched four Sun City Softball Club 16-inch evening league teams, High Octane, against the Hurricanes and the Capitals and Adjusters square off.

There are two upcoming events for Sun City residents to practice their generous spirit. The first event is the third annual Brat and Brew Fest on Saturday, August 2, from 2-8 p.m. It is held at and sponsored by Sew Hop’d Brewery and Taproom. Enjoy food, brews, and music all day while supporting the Grafton Food Pantry and the Huntley Lions Club. 

This event was not just a gathering, but a profound tribute to our Vietnam-era veterans, honoring their service and welcoming them home. It was hosted by the Sun City Veterans Charter Club. 

Dino Micheli, secretary of the club, said, “We are here to honor over 70 veterans. They will be given a commemorative pin and a Presidential letter, a small token of our immense gratitude.”
