Calling all Del Webb residents with a passion for reading and children!  Several of the District 158 Schools will be hosting Battle of the Books during May and many community volunteers are needed.

Theatre Company of Sun City debuts radio plays

At 11 a.m. on April 3, The Theatre Company of Sun City aired its first radio play on 101.5 FM, Huntley Community Radio. Its new half-hour program is called Vintage Voices. Myron Shellist, the charter club’s president since 2009, knew that members would respond well to the radio opportunity.

Softball season approaches with a twist

All right, Sun Citians, enough of this “winter ain’t leaving yet” stuff. The Sun City Softball Club opens its 2016 season on May 14. For Sun City, that means the first “official” day of spring. The softballers say so.

“We’re going to bring the mall back to its greatest days.” With these words, Rich Turasky, founder and president of Capital Realty and Development of Elgin, announced April 12 that his company has purchased the Huntley Outlet Center.

Garage sales have a history. According to Phyllis James, N19, the first, and probably only, outdoor garage sale was actually held in Sun City in the summer of 2004.

A musical heading toward Sun City, however, has taken those stories and transposed them to the stage, providing a “humorous and touching view of growing up in Catholic school.”

A community comes together for a great cause

More children in the United States die of childhood cancer than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies, and diabetes combined. Also, more than 175,000 kids are diagnosed each year. These numbers are staggering and sad at the same time. In Huntley, a very special young lady’s parents decided to help do something about it.
