A while back, you addressed a question about the assigning of numbers to the Sun City Neighborhoods. I have a follow-up question. What went into the naming of the streets here in Sun City and who made the choices?
The Anglers and Grandma, Grandpa, & Me members, along with their grandkids, enjoying an afternoon at the annual fishing derby on July 24 at Wildflower Lake.
Off we went to get our fill, to a restaurant in Cary that’s called Eggville. (Dr. Seuss, eat your heart out)!!!
Summer vacation is soon over, and school will be starting shortly for Huntley children. Some will be lucky to be transported by a special bus driver and Sun City resident, Kristen Lang. Lang has been driving a bus for fifteen years. Most of her career was in Minnesota, where she also trained others to drive a bus. Lang said, “I loved the job and the kids. I left the position because I fell in love and I moved here to Sun City. I was hired here as a bus driver for the Huntley School District. Before I left Minnesota, I wrote a letter to each of my students. It was a sad goodbye. But I love it here in Huntley.”

Age 5: I let him sit in the driver’s seat. He could barely see over the steering wheel, and he made car sounds while he steered hard to the left, then banked hard to the right. He turned every knob on the radio dial, flipped on the turn signal, and startled himself when he turned on the windshield wipers. I snapped a picture of him that day, his smile as big as the moon.

Sun City’s Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC) is providing the community with an opportunity to give feedback on walking and biking paths on Sunday, August 17, in Drendel Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. Dennis O’Leary, Chair of SPAC, emphasized, “The Strategic Planning Committee values your feedback on walking and biking paths within the community. Your participation is integral to our long-range plans for Sun City. Come and share your opinions.”

The book gives a glimpse into the lives of two members of the “Greatest Generation,” Virginia and her husband, Eddie Piotrowski. Piotrowski said, “When she was in her 80s, my mother documented the first 30 years of her life, from 1922 to 1952.”
Sun City resident, Ed Piotrowski, is a published author. His current project has been finishing and publishing a book based on writings by his mother. The book gives a glimpse into the lives of two members of the “Greatest Generation,” Virginia and her husband, Eddie Piotrowski.

Sun City resident John Schwan described his latest pickleball tournament as “the Olympics, but for seniors.” Schwan returned with a silver medal he earned at the 2025 National Senior Olympics Games, held in Des Moines, Iowa. Schwan won three of four contested matches in the 75-79 age group, in the 4.0 division. Pickleball was one of 26 sports contested.

Our little puppy, Rosie, is rapidly approaching her second birthday. We can’t believe how fast time flies; it seems like only yesterday she was a one-and-one-half pound furball. She is now tipping the scale at a whopping eight pounds, but still has that puppy energy. Those who see her walking Jim down the sidewalk will know what we mean. Even the mailman knows her as “that crazy dog.” One of the neighbors, Bob, comes out to play with her and brings a fistful of dog treats. So, in honor of her second birthday, and the fact that we survived the two years, we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice dinner.
I had major doubts when I heard my brother was going to visit Iceland in the middle of the winter. After all, Iceland is located just a few degrees south of the Arctic Circle. But, while they did have warm coats, the weather was fortunately no worse than what we experienced in Del Webb this winter, and they could even bathe in hot springs to get warm, if necessary.

For now, we’re managing okay, but the days are getting more complicated. I’m still able to care for her, but I can feel the weight of it building. I’m 76, and while I’m in decent health, I know that I need to be realistic about what I can do on my own.

The public may also tour Huntley Fire Station No. 1, 1118 Main St., from 3-7 p.m., Aug. 6.

My son’s Brittany spaniel is an olfactory wonder. Whenever I go to visit, he dashes circles around my legs, praying to play fetch. (The dog, not my son. That would be creepy.) The yard is filled with fetchable things — chewed up tennis balls, bones, sticks, rubber toys — and all I have to do is choose one of them and give it a toss. Cinder the spaniel dashes off and brings it back.

The Huntley community continued its support of Illinois Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) at the “Tip A Cop” event. The event, held July 5 at Culver’s of Huntley, has been held there for more than 20 years. Huntley Citizens Police Academy Alumni assisted in accepting tips from customers.

Just to give you a heads up, this article is going to be very strange. Try to follow along and we will explain it as best as we can.
Music has been a part of film since its inception. Even as silent films ran, an accompanying piano or orchestra served as the soundtrack. But as the years wore on, different genres and artists burst onto the silver screen in a multitude of projects. Many have been complimentary but of their time (Spice World comes to mind.) Others like Mariah Carey’s ill-fated Glitter got panned as vanity projects. And then there is Pavements.
“Come out and see this!” Chris, my husband, exclaimed on a recent Saturday morning. He had stopped at a garage sale and purchased what he deemed a treasure. He was thrilled to find a small metal ladder that had oval planting containers hooked on several rungs. His vision included setting the raised planter near our vegetable garden and having vines grow to cover the sides and rungs of the ladder with beautiful flowers. After talking through a few options, we decided to plant morning glory seeds in the three metal planters. We knew whatever we planted in the small containers would not live through the winter so an annual vine seemed like the natural choice. I view morning glories as a guilty pleasure. Although they can be invasive, each time I see them they make me smile.

I’m reaching out as a daughter who is trying to hold onto some joy and tradition with my aging parents, even as things have changed a bit this year. They’ve always loved summer, the botanical gardens in full bloom, music in the park, and strolls through the farmer’s market. These little outings have meant so much to all of us over the years. But recently, my parents had a bit of a health setback, and I’m realizing that even the simplest day out now takes a little more planning, patience, and flexibility.
I’m reaching out as a daughter who is trying to hold onto some joy and tradition with my aging parents, even as things have changed a bit this year.
They’ve always loved summer, the botanical gardens in full bloom, music in the park, and strolls through the farmer’s market. These little outings have meant so much to all of us over the years. But recently, my parents had a bit of a health setback, and I’m realizing that even the simplest day out now takes a little more planning, patience, and flexibility.
Something about an advertisement in a 2018 edition of My Sun Day News caught Todd Kane’s interest. “I saw an ad in My Sun Day News that the track and field and cross country programs at Huntley High School were looking for volunteers from Sun City,” Kane said. “So I contacted the head boys coach, Chris Maxedon and with two others, became a volunteer coach.” Kane was a new resident to Sun City at the time, but had a background in track and field while growing up in New York State and competing at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.

We suspected they would tie the knot at some point, but for the past few years, they didn’t seem in any rush. This proved to be a challenge for my husband and me, Gen X-ers who were married at ages 21 and 22. More than a few times we’ve kicked each other under the table when one of us was about to ask, “So, are you two ever going to get married?” “Stay cool,” we’d mouth to each other behind our water glasses. “Relax — It’s none of our business.”
