Finding a lost chain and more on driveway maintenance

Q. Twelve years ago when I moved into my Mackinac model house here in Sun City, I lost a favorite gold chain with my name on it. I laid it down on the left counter next to the sink in my master bathroom, and it fell down in the space between counter and sink. Do any of you have any suggestions, and would someone please come to work on it and help me?

No telling who will join the band in our backyard Eden

In our backyard, nestled among the tea roses, phlox and alyssum, is a black iron fountain with a fluted bowl atop a pedestal rising from a stone-ringed basin at the bottom. It is not the spouting kind of fountain. Rather, it drips softly into the water below, filling the garden with a liquid music to serve as background to the birdsong.

Sun Day celebrates 100 edition milestone

When you break a news¬paper down to its most basic level, it’s one thing: an hourglass. Let me explain. A newspaper gathers independent information, call them granules of information, from a wide area, condenses them, and feeds that information back out to that same area, where it disperses. Turn the hourglass over, and the action repeats.

The terrible toll taken by tolls

I mentioned in my last column that Sue and I had just returned from a trip that took us through 20 states west of the Mississippi. Sue was our navigator, and she kept careful notes of our journey, logging all the wonderful sights and keeping stats on dates, locations, mileage, etc. One statistic on her list was highway tolls. Take a guess on how much we paid in tolls outside Illinois as we completed our 7,350 mile trip.
