Can you please educate me on the signs of elder abuse? I am concerned for a neighbor, and I don’t know if I need to get involved.
Art Room renovations, Drendel Ballroom hallway washrooms, Wildflower Trail asphalt, roof replacements, and possible use of security cameras were the main subjects of discussion and action at the September 26 meeting of the Sun City board of directors.

The Jennifer Lupo theft case in Sun City is nearly three years old. On October 11, it got three months older.
By 2030, more than 60 million seniors are predicted to be driving on our country’s roads. Already having looked forward to the future of Illinois traffic, a 1990 law was passed by our state legislature on the subject of tighter state driver restrictions for those above the age of 75. In attempting to lower the amount of accidents involving the elderly, Illinois still ranks as one of the U.S. toughest states. Let’s look at its testing rules.
I moved into Sun City about six months ago and would like to replace or repaint my faded address numbers. Is there anywhere that you know of that they can be purchased? If not, any hints as to what type of paint can be used for touching up the numbers?
Commonwealth Edison recently hired a contractor to prune several trees in front of the grandparent’s house. A representative from ComEd made a point to stop by and tell us that they would be doing the work the following Wednesday and the trees were clearly marked. One of the men who was supervising the tree trimming also took the time to explain what they were going to do and how they would go about it. These are trees that I drive past many times a day, and I knew that they were going to be pruned.

Riding around in Neighborhood 17, you will find most of the mailboxes have jack-o-lanterns atop of the post. One home in Neighborhood 17 might be the most festive of all. Outside of family events, there are a handful of dates that are indelibly stamped in most of our memories. December 7, 1941, November 22, 1963, September 11, 2001, and the date this story is about, July 20, 1969. And what an incredible day it was: we won the space race to the moon. The world watched in awe as Neil Armstrong stepped off the lunar module onto the surface and uttered one of the most famous lines in history, “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
While we were scouring the countryside in search of new and exciting eateries, one restaurant in particular piqued our interest. In researching this restaurant we became very confused. Its address is listed as St. Charles. It’s located across the street from Niko’s Tavern and Mel’s Diner in Campton Hills, which we recently reviewed. The website address says Wasco, but the name of the restaurant is Old Towne. So, where is it??? We’ll tell you how to get there, but the world may never know its exact location. We are referring to The Old Towne Pub & Eatery in Wasco.
County staff has presented a 2019 budget and levy for McHenry County that not only further reduces the cost of government, but also returns money back to the taxpayers.
Two Sun City Stingray Swim Club members recently wrapped up their 2018 Senior Games season by participating in the Wisconsin State Senior Swim Olympics. Mark Schark led the charge by winning gold medals for all 6 of his events.
Tall Oaks Tennis Club (TOTC) celebrated a successful tennis season at the team banquet held at the Randall Oaks Golf Club. The guests arrived not in tennis clothes but in Mardi Gras attire. Guests showed up with feathered, elegant, Mardi Gras masks. There was a Mardi Gras King in costume, cape and all. And what Mardi Gras party would be complete without the Jester.

The blaze, which neighbors and witnesses reportedly said was accompanied by sounds like explosions, occurred in a six-pack cluster of townhomes in the 13400 block of Michigan Avenue, in Neighborhood 8.

Her husband Roger became interested in the activity and so it began. “I started working with Roger on the New York Time’s Monday puzzle. Monday’s version is the easiest and they get harder each day and Sunday’s puzzle is huge,” said Kathy. Soon, however, the couple would do more than solving the puzzles.

This gets one star only because of Glen Close, who gives us an Oscar worthy performance as the wife, lost in the throes of a forty year marriage slowly going astray. This might have been a two star movie because of the fine acting all around, but the profanity blew the story out the door for us.

Our garage door keypad is not working. It has worked fine for six years but last week when I enter the code nothing happens.
In May 2018, Eileen and I enjoyed a combined land tour/ocean cruise vacation to Alaska. In part 1, we described our land tour visit to a gold mining area, a riverboat excursion, an indigenous American native area, visiting Mount Denali National Park and lastly, a scenic train ride to our ship in Whittier. Once we were boarded and somewhat settled, it was time for the “muster” drill; what to do in case of an emergency. Then the first of many food courses.
Mom has been living in an assisted living community and we know she will not return to her home. As her power of attorney, I am faced with the task of selling her beloved home. I don’t know how to tell her I will be doing this. It is overwhelming. Some people have advised me not to tell her, others say they would. I am torn.

Both the village and area developers have been talking together for the past year about the future of the now-vacant property. They agree on the need to redevelop it into something financially and commercially viable. But there are varying opinions between the property owners and village officials regarding exactly what to do.

During my senior-year high school art class, I would almost daily ask the teacher for the bathroom pass, but instead of heading to the bathroom, I’d pass them up and head straight for the cafeteria with a pocket full of money and several snack orders from other students. I’m not sure how I got elected to be the official third-period snack runner, but it became my job.
