Sun City resident, dietitian presents healthy alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs

By My Sunday News

Dietitian Norma Thompson will offer three identical sessions for 2011 on getting healthy and staying that way. Classes will take place 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays at Citizens First National Bank, 12101 Regency Square Parkway in Huntley. Class sessions are being held: June 6-27, August 1-22, and September 12-October 3. Classes are free but gratuities to cover expenses will be gladly accepted.

All men, women & couples who are new as well as all of those who have taken the course in the past few years are encouraged to attend. The class material was completely rewritten last summer with many helpful, positive suggestions! Registration is open now by calling Norma at 847-659-1295.

A past hospital dietitian, she believes that too much emphasis is placed on studying different diseases, looking for cures, too many routine tests trying to find disease and prescribing too many pharmaceutical drugs, many of which are never needed in the first place. People are spending too much time and money going to doctors and wanting them to give a quick band aid approach to fix their health problems. The emphasis should be on eating good wholesome foods that will give the body a chance to heal itself. People need to take responsibility for themselves by making lifestyle changes.

Some topics to be covered are:

— Why drugs simply cover symptoms and how they harm the body.

— Why diets which are based on the government Food Pyramid don’t work.

— Norma’s new health pyramid unveiled; comparison of the 2 pyramids.

— Why vitamins are simply the same as taking drugs — the importance of whole foods.

— No fats, bad fats & good fats.

— The most important food on earth for healing!

— How to properly read a label when you shop.

— Sugar and carbohydrates; the blood sugar factor.

— Grains and the gluten factor.

— Much, much more!

(If there is enough interest in a Saturday a.m. class, July 9-30, let Norma know, and we will schedule one.)
